DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Ovidiu Garlea\n\nAbout the School\nPolarized neutron
measurements allow one to better understand intertwined orders in quantum
materials by unambiguously distinguishing between the structural and mag
netic scattering features and determining the direction of magnetic moment
s and their fluctuations. Furthermore\, polarized neutrons also enable mea
surements of magnetization distribution and the determination of atomic si
te susceptibility tensors in a wide range of materials of fundamental and
technological importance.\nThe main goal of the workshop is to make polar
ized neutrons more accessible and popular with a wider scientific communit
 y. The workshop is designed to educate the rising user community to the le
vel where they can confidently design and propose new experiments\, and in
dependently process their data to efficiently extract the essential inform
ation.\nThe workshop will combine lectures and hands-on sessions introduci
ng participants to the key concepts and applications of polarized neutron
scattering techniques\, including both diffraction and inelastic scatterin
 g. In addition to the lectures\, the program will feature practical tutori
als covering several commonly used analysis tools\, including hands-on ana
lysis of polarized diffraction data (flipping ratios and flipping-differen
ce measurements) with CrysPy\, analysis of diffuse magnetic scattering wit
h SpinInteract\, and an introduction to Mag2Pol\, including hands-on analy
sis of unpolarized and spherical neutron polarization data.\nThe workshop
will also highlight the polarization techniques available at ORNL by showc
asing recent and planned instrumental developments in polarized neutrons a
t the SNS and HFIR facilities. Hands-on demonstrations are planned using p
re-collected data from HYSPEC (SNS) and PTAX\, POWDER\, and DEMAND (HFIR)\
, focusing on their polarization configurations as well as data processing
and reduction.\nThe workshop is intended for graduate students\, post-doc
s\, or scientists who are wishing to extend or strengthen their expertise
in neutron scattering into the realm of polarization analysis.\nWorkshop L
ocation\nThe workshop will be held in-person at Oak Ridge National Labor
 atory.\nWorkshop Organizers\n\nOvidiu Garlea (garleao@ornl.gov)\nBarry Win
