Advanced soft materials are critical for solving societal challenges. Developing novel soft materials requires in-depth understanding of the relationships between processing structures and dynamics. The 2022 ORNL Soft Matter Symposium will facilitate an exchange of ideas between diverse teams help produce ideas that lead to discoveries and innovations.

There is growing need to leverage the wide range of soft matter expertise that exists across ORNL, while strengthening collaborations by improving internal communications. Rapid developments in soft materials synthesis, analytical instrumentation and theory make it extremely important to keep one’s knowledge up to date.

The 2-day symposium offers ORNL’s soft matter researchers an opportunity to learn different research techniques, including neutron scattering, x-ray scattering, electron microscopy, and complementary techniques. Participants will gain a better understanding of the strength, weaknesses and limits of the techniques, as well as learn about new developments and future trends in soft materials.
