Analyzing Neutron Spectroscopy Data with (Linear) Spin-Wave Theory 

This two-and-a-half day workshop, set to take place from Tuesday, September 12 to Thursday, September 14, is an introduction and tutorial on using (linear) spin-wave theory to analyze neutron spectroscopy data. Participants will hear a pedagogical introduction to spin waves, go from data to analysis for a magnetic neutron spectroscopy experiment, and engage in an array of interactive sessions and practicals. 

While the emphasis is on linear spin-wave theory (LSWT), this workshop offers participants the opportunity to gain insights into specialized topics such as the Julia language, the pedagogy of LSWT, the resolution function for neutron spectroscopy, and histogramming Time-of-Flight (TOF) data. Analysis practicals will heavily use Sunny.jl, a software suite for LSWT analysis, that has features beyond LSWT. After the initial groundwork, there will be a deeper dive into advanced topics like classical approximations to quantum systems, the SU(N) generalization of magnetization dynamics, Density Functional Theory (DFT) to estimate exchange parameters, and other cutting-edge theoretical and computational techniques.
