The "Best Student Presentation Award" is presented to ~5 students who deliver the best poster presentation during the CNMS User Meeting. The award is open to graduate, undergraduate, and high school students. The recipients of the “Best Student Presentation Award” will be determined by a panel of judges who will evaluate each presentation and score them on each criterion:
Organization and Structure: The judges will look for clear subheadings, supporting details, and well-designed slides. They will also evaluate the communicated value of research and its link to ORNL, assessing whether the presenter is able to convey the significance of their research and how it relates to the organization.
Graphs, Charts, Images, and Technical Accuracy: In addition, the judges will assess the use of graphs, charts, and images, looking for visuals that reinforce the text and ideas presented in the presentation. They will also evaluate the technical accuracy of each presentation, checking for errors and accurate labeling of information and graphics.
Originality, Effort, and Overall Presentation: The judges will also assess the originality and effort put into each presentation, evaluating how well the presenter has thought creatively about their research and how engaging and informative the presentation is. Finally, the judges will evaluate the overall quality of each presentation, looking for presenters who are confident and able to clearly explain all topics in a five-minute time frame.
*To be considered for the "Best Student Presentation Award", participants are also expected to also participate in the “Student Poster Slam.” This event will occur before the poster session as part of the main meeting. Each student will be given 90 seconds and the use of 1 slide to present a highlight of their poster to the CNMS User Group. The goal of “Student Poster Slam” is to showcase and share knowledge, encourage academic excellence, and promote critical thinking and communication skills. More information will be shared via e-mail prior to the event.
Once all presentations have been evaluated, the judges will deliberate and determine the winner of the Best Student Presentation Award based on their scores and overall impressions of each presentation. The recipients of the award will be announced at the CNMS Town Hall, and each awardee will be presented a certificate and a gift card.
